San Francisco Love

It officially feels like summer. We’re making plans for picnics in the park and pulling out those bright, slammin’ summer tunes to take us through our hot summer nights. Here in Honolulu, the summer has been great, and while the days are a little bit longer, the nights aren’t necessarily shorter. It seems like in the summer time, djs pull out all the stops to keep the party going longer.

DJ GarthThis week on The So Very Show, we’ll be celebrating the sounds of summer with a little San Francisco love. Our first guest this evening is part of the iconic Wicked crew, credited by many SF house lovers for influencing what became that unique “SF House” sound, Grayhound Recordings boss DJ Garth. Garth will be spinning at thirtyninehotel this Saturday, and he’ll be filling us in on the details on tonight’s show. We’ve got some of his new tracks to play as well. Garth has been one of our favorite djs, having visited Honolulu several times over the past couple of years. The eclectic mix of deep, dub, and disco that is Grayhound Recordings can be relied upon to put out some “go-to” records that stay in your record bag or CD case for years to come.

Dru DeepDru Deep also hails from San Francisco, and since his arrival in Honolulu this past Friday, he’s been on a dj tour of our fair city. On Friday he played at Next Door with Bassbin Twins, on Sunday he played at Casa, on Tuesday he played at OPEN at Anna Banana’s. His label, COA Records based out of San Francisco, contributed a cut to Mark Farina’s “Connected” CD a couple of years back. Dru’s style brings in funky, bumpin’ beats with energetic lyrics and mixing style that will get our weekend started right!

Finally, here are some quick picks for your house-filled weekend:

Kaskade at Next Door 6/29/07

On Friday, Kaskade will be shaking things up at Next Door. His third album, Love Mysterious brings even more of that instantly recognizeable, can’t-stop-singing-or-dancing-to-it signature Kaskade sound. Perfect for summer! Kaskade’s shows regularly go off, so get there early!

This Saturday, there’s Double Joy Disco at thirtyninehotel with DJ Garth. We’ve heard a lot about the relaunch of thirtyninehotel and their Saturday night disco party, and we anticipate that Garth will kick it into high gear this Saturday! There’s also a VIP Pre-Party with hosted bar 9pm-10:30pm. Space is limited, to RSVP, email VIP@thirtyninehotel.com.

Also this Saturday, Vybe Nights returns at Lotus Soundbar with The Low End Specialists feat. Ali.
