The SV 5/24/07 with Stacy Kidd, Marlon Estrada

See the tracklist from this week’s show.

DJ Fez is all grown up!

Marlon Estrada on the SV! 5.24.07

That’s right, y’all – our guest for this evening is Marlon Estrada, aka DJ Fez. Marlon’s returned from his year-long Mesopotamian Tour, and he’s ready to rock! They may not have record shops in Iraq (yet), but they’ve got Beatport and Traxsource!

Stacy Kidd - House 4 Life! This weekend’s got a lot going on, too. Marlon will be opening up for Chicago house legend Stacy Kidd(ChicagoSoundSource.com, Defected, MAW) at Lotus on Friday. After the heater last week at Lotus with the 3 Degrees tour, I’m ready to kick this weekend into full-on jackin’ overdrive. Who’s with me?

Akio and Cryptik @ Next Door Friday May 25Also on Friday, past SV guests and local house djs Akio and Cryptik will be giving out the “Love for Locals” at Next Door. Speaking of Cryptik, he’ll be doing the guest mix next week. I’m also hoping to get Akio back into the studio as well in the near future.

double joy disco @ thirtyninehotelAfter the success of their recent renovation (and let me tell you, it is amazing), thirtyninehotel is re-launching their Saturday night disco party with “Double Joy Disco” this Saturday, May 26. Special guest DJ Juan Nunez (Freestyle, LA) will be on the decks, along with Chittom and two of my new favorite local disco aficionados, Duck and Grady.

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday. You know Monday is a holiday? So there’s no excuse not to go strong for the entire weekend. In the day time there is Tiki Sessions at La Mariana. I’ve never been to La Mariana for a party before, but it’s the type of place that just is the party. Walking into La Mariana is like stepping into a movie – it’s surreal. I can only imagine what combining that with a bunch of loud dance music, drink specials, and the usual suspects will entail. Oh! and did I mention pupus?

Sam Seven @ Casa 5.27.07Since it is Memorial Day weekend, you know Casa is going to pull out all the stops. And for those of you who were wondering, yes, Casa is still going. Last week was exceptional with a bunch of new faces and 3Degrees djs Monna and Julius the Mad Thinker playing excellent tunes while our friend FLX got to be on the other side of the decks for a change. This week, vocalist Sam Seven will be doing his thing along with dj Larissa Gamarra. Sam Seven gets in to Hawaii on Friday, so he won’t be able to make it into the studio tonight – but we do plan to try to do a call in. Ruby will be on the show to talk about Sam and hopefully play some of his music. Once again, Casa is not at Bliss anymore – it’s at sound/house, formerly Detox, 1192 Alakea on the corner of Beretania and Alakea downtown.

Aloha!

Some Call It House… We Call it Heaven!

“We were inspired by the concept of six degrees of separation; the idea that everyone in the world is connected by at most six different people. But it is our belief that like-minded individuals are actually separated by only three.” [3degreesglobal.com]

I first heard about 3Degrees when Passean visited us on The So Very Show in 2004. That was before I had met FLX and before I had ever visited Chicago. I knew that I loved music and I knew that I loved to dance. I liked the people that I met when I went dancing, and I liked sharing music with my friends – and having them share it with me. It felt like discovery.

Nearly 3 years later, the 3Degrees crew is coming to Hawaii. They are bringing 3 djs: FLX, Monna, and Julius the Mad Thinker. We met Julius this past March in Miami at the Winter Music Conference.

We’ll be interviewing Julius on the show tonight. We’ll be discussing 3Degrees’ unique concept, their sound, their success, and what the 3Degrees crew is up to now, including their upcoming show in at Lotus Soundbar in Waikiki this Saturday:

“Saturday May 19th, 2007, Chicago based DJ/promotion collective 3° Global (Three Degrees Global), and Lotus present the 6th annual, and Hawaii debut of the “3Degrees Some Call It House…We Call It Home tour” @ Lotus Soundbar. The tour will feature a live performance by New Jersey’s Kenny Bobien, along with international DJ’s and Chicago residents, Julius the Mad Thinker, Monna, DJ FLX, & host Priti Gandhi of 3Degrees Global. 3Degrees Global promotions specialize in bringing like-minded, yet culturally diverse groups together while providing mind-blowing entertainment. This event will be no exception!”[Source: 3Degrees Press Release]

3Degrees at Lotus 5.19.07Many house fans will recognize New Jersey-based house vocalist Kenny Bobien – if not his name, his unique voice and singing style. He’s worked with Dennis Ferrer and Frankie Feliciano, and put out releases on Records of Interest, King Street, and Night Grooves. Kenny is a Grammy-award winning artist who will be performing some of his songs live at Lotus Soundbar. This is his first trip to Hawaii, and I got a chance to catch his performance for myself this past March in Miami. To sum it up in a word: inspirational. We’ll be playing some of his songs, as well as an original by Julius and a mix by Julius – just to give you a teaser for this Saturday. You know how we do!

Add to that, a live mix, possibly some giveaways, and some (long overdue) pick-of-the-week tracks, plus some new stuff I’ve got that I’m aching to play – it’s gonna be a great show!

Oh! And did I mention Kenny’s married to another one of my favorite artists – Stephanie Cooke!

Love and hugs,
ms.angel
